Chief Executive Officer
Michael A. Young brings more than 28 years of healthcare industry leadership to Grady Health System where he joined the health system as President/CEO on Sept. 2, 2008.
Young began his career at Lancaster General Hospital & Health System in Lancaster, Penn. During his tenure there, Young built a new Women's Hospital, Orthopaedic Hospital and cutting-edge ambulatory services program. Most recently, Young was President and CEO of Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, N.Y. He was a key player in turning around ECMC's historical operating losses - to its first ever operating gain in 2006, a $32 million turnaround in two years. ECMC is recognized for its clinical expertise, its unusually high case mix index and unique services in burn, trauma, adolescent psychiatry, CPEP and many other services.
A native of Pennsylvania, Young received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1978, a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1979, and an Executive MBA from the Harvard Business School (Advanced Management Program) in 1998.
Young has been a fellow in the American College of Hospital Administrators since 1994 and has produced numerous CEOs under his tutelage throughout the United States.
Young has served on numerous boards of directors throughout his career providing leadership and philanthropic support. |

Executive Vice President / Operations
Denise Williams joins Grady as Executive Vice President of Operations. Williams was formerly senior vice president of Community Hospital Management Services for American Healthcare Solutions in Pittsburgh, Penn. She spent five years as president and CEO of Memorial Hospital of Salem County in Salem, N.J., where she administered direction and operational matters for the hospital and its affiliated organizations.
Williams was also president and CEO of Roseland Community Hospital Association in Chicago, Ill. for 11 years, and has served as administrator for several healthcare organizations in Indiana and Virginia.
She has served on a vast number of boards and organizations and has received numerous awards and recognitions, including "25 Chicagoans Who Are Making a Difference," published in Crane's Chicago Business, "Emerging Leaders in Healthcare" from Korn Ferry International and "Young Healthcare Executive of the Year" from the American College of Healthcare Executives.

President / Henry W. Grady Health System Foundation
Lisa Borders has served as president of Atlanta's city council since 2004. Prior to joining the Foundation, Borders was CEO of LMB Group LLC, a community investment, external affairs, marketing and communications company. She has previously worked as a senior vice president of Marketing and External Affairs with Cousins Properties, an Atlanta-based real estate investment trust.
Prior to joining Cousins, Borders worked in the healthcare arena for more than 15 years. She served as the chief administrator for Atlanta Women's Specialists and also served as vice president of operations for Healthcap Atlanta, a physician practice management company.
Borders holds a bachelor's degree from Duke University and a masters of science in health administration from the University of Colorado. |

Chief Information Officer
Deborah Cancilla served the last 14 years at the Erie County Medical Center, Corp. (ECMC) in Buffalo, N.Y. in various capacities in the IT department, including seven years as CIO. During her tenure at ECMC, Cancilla was recognized as a leading expert in health information technology. Through her efforts, the department received a first place institutional ranking for excellence in service and support, and she positioned ECMC within the top 10 percent of national healthcare systems for use of technology and clinical systems.
Cancilla also implemented a wireless network and Internet café at ECMC, facilitated a major PBX upgrade and implemented a bar code and wireless transmission technology on nursing units for EKG, bedside medication administration and Alaris pump updates to assist with proper patient identification and safety. She also played a lead role in development of a RHIO (regional health information office) for sharing patient clinical and financial data.
Cancilla has also worked in the banking industry and for the Internal Revenue Service. She earned a master's degree in global business and a bachelor of science degree in business administration, both from Daemen College in Buffalo.
She has extensive training in information technology including Networking Essentials, Microsoft Office applications, Hardware essentials, Internet tools and TCP/IP. |

Senior Vice President / Operations
Sue Green joins Grady as a Senior Vice President of Operations. Green has service line responsibility for oncology, cardiology, mental health services, and the developing Neuroscience Center at Grady. Rehabilitation, the sickle cell program and respiratory services are also under her direction. She joined Grady from St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System – The Texas Heart Institute in Houston, Texas.
Green has a BSN in nursing from the University of Delaware, an MSW from the University of Houston, and an MBA from Rice University. She is certified by the University of Michigan, School of Engineering in Lean Management in Healthcare, a performance improvement methodology pioneered by Toyota. She is a member of both FMHA and ACHE.
Green has experience in developing new and profitable programs. She has led large change initiatives including a charge capture program that netted $8M. She has started and operated a centralized call center for two organizations. She has worked with clinical areas and also managed the revenue cycle and the supply chain in her last position. She has extensive experience with benchmarking and operations analysis. |

Senior Vice President / Marketing and Strategic Planning
Matt Gove comes to Grady after more than five years with Cousins Properties, where he most recently served as Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications, overseeing all of the company's branding, marketing and communications activities. Gove's earlier positions include staff writer at the Atlanta Business Chronicle, and experience with international marketing and public relations firm Manning, Selvage & Lee and local media relations firm The Gove Network.
In addition to his professional responsibilities, Gove also serves on the Board of Directors of Park Pride, a nonprofit dedicated to more and better parks in Atlanta, and he serves on the Communications and Public Involvement Committee of the Atlanta Regional Commission. |

Deputy Senior Vice President / Medical Affairs
Leon L. Haley Jr., MD, is the Deputy Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief of Emergency Medicine for the Grady Health System and Vice-Chairman for Grady Clinical Affairs and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Emory University.
A Pittsburgh native, Dr. Haley holds degrees from Brown University and the Universities of Pittsburgh and Michigan. Dr. Haley is Board-Certified in Emergency Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
He is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American College of Physician Executives. He is a member of the IOM Committee on Health and Insurance Status.
Dr. Haley has several honors and awards including the Atlanta Business Chronicles’ Healthcare Heroes and "Up and Comers Awards", Georgia Trend Magazine’s "40 Leaders Under 40" and Georgia Association of Physician Assistants Physician of the Year Award.
Dr. Haley volunteers with Leadership Georgia, Leadership Atlanta, the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, Camp Twin Lakes, Girls on the Run Inc., the Junior League of Atlanta Community Advisory Board, the Griffith Leadership Center and a member of the Omega Psi Phi and Sigma Pi Phi Fraternities. |

Deputy Senior Vice President / Medical Affairs
Kelvin J. Holloway is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Morehouse School of Medicine, and Deputy Senior Vice President/Deputy Chief of Staff of Medical Affairs at Grady Health System. Major responsibilities in this role include leadership and direction of the organization’s performance improvement/patient safety efforts and the identification of opportunities to enhance patient outcomes through the proactive evaluation and transformation of processes and systems.
Dr. Holloway is a native Atlantan and a product of the Atlanta Public School System. He completed his undergraduate work at Georgia Institute of Technology and received his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He completed his residency training in Pediatrics in 1981 and his fellowship in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology in 1983. Following his residency training, Dr. Holloway served as an instructor of Pediatrics’ at Howard University. He went on to private practice in the metropolitan Atlanta area (Dekalb County) for seven years, prior to joining Morehouse School of Medicine as a full-time faculty member. He received his M.B.A. degree from Kennesaw State University in 2003.
Dr. Holloway is a member of several boards, including the Southeastern Chapter of the American Lung Association, National Center for Healthy Housing, Howard University Medical Alumni Association, Atlanta Children’s Shelter and the Coalition for a Healthy and Responsible Georgia (CHARGE). He is the current chair of the Allergy, Asthma and Immunology section of the National Medical Association. He is the recipient of several awards and honors, including recognition as one of America’s Leading Physicians by Black Enterprise Magazine in 2003 and 2008, featured in Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Who’s Who in Atlanta Health Care, induction in the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and received the Project Catalyst Service Award from the City of Atlanta.
He is a member of various national and local professional organizations, including the American College of Physician Executives, National Association of Public Hospitals, the Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, National Medical Association and the Atlanta Medical Association. Senior Vice President / Legal Affairs
A senior healthcare executive with more than 25 years of health-related experience, Timothy Jefferson holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a juris doctorate from Columbia University Law School; in addition to his general counsel role, Jefferson also served as Grady's chief operating officer from 2001 - 2003 and interim president and CEO in 2007; prior to joining Grady in 1998, Jefferson served in various leadership roles, including senior vice president/general counsel at D.C. Health & Hospital Public Benefit Corp., senior associate general counsel at Howard University and senior attorney for the Department of Health & Human Services/National Institutes of Health; Jefferson is a graduate of Leadership Atlanta (class of 2002) and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, National Association of Public Hospitals, National Association of Health Services Executives and American Health Lawyers Association. |

Senior Vice President / Chief of Staff
Noted as one of America's best doctors in Castle Connolly's book, "America's Top Doctors," Dr. Lewis is an interventional radiologist and serves as Grady's senior vice president of medical affairs/chief of staff; Lewis received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine and his master's in business administration from Kennesaw State University; he is a cardiovascular healthcare fellow, a Society of Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology fellow and a member of the National Hispanic Medical Association and the Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiological Society of Europe; Lewis has served as an associate editor for the "Journal of Vascular & Interventional Radiology" and as chair of both the Committee on Standards of Practice for the American College of Radiology and the Standards Division for the National Society of Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology. |

Sue McCarthy most recently served as Chief Financial Officer at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, New York. She has a bachelor of science in accounting and is a certified public accountant. Prior to working at Erie County, McCarthy was CFO and Vice President of Financial and Administrative Services at Magee-Womens Hospital, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Holding a bachelor's and a master's degree in nursing, as well as a PhD in nursing science, Rhonda A. Scott's diverse healthcare background includes leadership roles as an administrator, clinical nurse specialist, consultant, educator, researcher, author and entrepreneur; she joined Grady in 2004 and has over 20 years of nursing experience at some of the finest healthcare institutions in the U.S., including the University of Chicago Medical Center, University of Alabama Medical Center, Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital, Saint Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta - and others; Scott is a member of several professional nursing associations and has served as president of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists; she was awarded Tenet's "Outstanding Chief Nursing Officer Award" and received the "Up and Comers Award" from Modern Healthcare magazine for rising stars in healthcare management; Scott is often credited for successfully eliminating nurse contract labor, improving nursing, patient and physician satisfaction and enhancing nurse recruitment and retention; she is a nurse executive fellow at the Wharton School of Business, widely published in leading nursing journals and an internationally sought-after speaker. |

An executive healthcare leader with an extensive background in project management, hospital operations and team facilitation, Tindall holds a bachelor of arts degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and a master's degree in both business and hospital administration from Georgia State University. Tindall has been with Grady for 21 years, beginning as an administrative resident in 1988, and has skillfully handled a variety of roles and responsibilities, including interim executive vice president/COO, vice president of general and ancillary services and director of facilities planning. Senior Vice President / Operations
Calvin Thomas IV, SVP of Operations at Grady Health System, is responsible for the Emergency Room, Trauma, Medical Imaging, Perioperative Services, Anesthesia, Central Sterile, Guest Services, Food & Nutrition, and Environmental Services.
Prior to joining Grady, Thomas spent the last six years working for Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). In 2003, he was an Associate Administrator at Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center in California and was promoted in 2006 to Chief Operating Officer of St. Lucie Medical Center in Florida. During his time with HCA, Calvin has installed TeleTracking and PACS as well as completed a $23M Orthopedic & Spine Institute which included a bed-expansion and additional operating rooms. He has also worked for Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan in Detroit, and the VA Medical Center in St. Louis.
Thomas attended Harris-Stowe State University where he received a Bachelors degree in Healthcare Management. He received his Masters degree in Healthcare Leadership at Dartmouth College. |

Vice President / Patient Satisfaction
Raven Carter is the Vice President of Patient Satisfaction where she has service line responsibility for the Burn Center, Telecommunications, and Patient Satisfaction and Customer Service. Prior to her current role, she completed a two year Administrative Fellowship Program at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, Ga. Before joining Emory Healthcare, Carter was a Manager and Team Lead for the Tissue Division of DCI Donor Services (DCIDS), the nonprofit, independent organ and tissue donor network of Dialysis Clinic, Inc. in Nashville, Tenn.
Carter has a BS in Biology from Ohio State University and an MBA from Tulane University. She is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). |

Chris Cintron, MPA, JD is the new Vice President of Ambulatory Care Services, overseeing the Neighborhood Health Centers and the hospital-based specialty clinics.
Cintron joins us from the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in the South Bronx. Prior to that, he worked at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y. He has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare administration with a focus on ambulatory care operations.
